In expectation of the next year’s edition of the Eurovision Song Contest we are inviting to the next interview implemented by our team INFE Poland! Jimmie Wilson answered our questions, which this year along with Valentina Monetta represented San Marino. The duet performed their hit track Spirit Of The Night. We are inviting cordially to the conversation with the likeable vocalist!
Timur (INFE Poland): Hello Jimmie!
Jimmie: Hi Timur.
Please, describe yourself in 3 words.
So Damn Beautiful… ha ha ha seriously, energetic, happy, cool.
Why did you join to the team of San Marino? What is a background about your participation?
I was asked to join the San Marino Team by the producer Ralph Siegel.
How did look your cooperation with Valentinna?
The cooperation was cool. We are both solo artists so there is always compromises when it comes to the performance. There are things I would have done differently and maybe she as well. In the end, I think we worked great together.
We also just had a wonderful concert together in San Marino on July 20th. It was a MOTOWN concert. We were singing the hits from different artist that come from my hometown of Detroit. Artist like Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, and Aretha Franklin. Also Motown artist like The Jackson 5, Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie.
Who is your favourite from Eurovision 2017?
I didn’t have an absolute favorite. I liked many countries, Belarus, Austria, Hungry and of course Kasia from Poland. And I’m not just saying that because you are Polish. I met Kasia years ago on “Must Be the Music”. We were on the same season in 2013.
The most vital thing in being a musician?
Transporting emotions. People need to FEEL something from an artist. If you can’t touch someone with your music then you can’t win their hearts.
In which countries would you like perform in future and why?
I will be performing in many countries the rest of the year and next year promoting my “So Damn Beautiful” album. I have already travelled to Sweden, Turkey, Austria, Switzerland, Ireland, and of course Poland. There are many more on the list.
Who help you to accomplish success?
I guess many people along the way helped in some way, but I have had to do most everything on my own. If you don’t believe and invest in yourself, no one else will.
Would you like to come back to Poland in future for some new experiences like for example participation in “Must Be The Music”?
I am often in Poland performing for many private events. But, I don’t think I will participate in any other TV show like “Must Be the Music”.
How was your (and Valentinna) reaction after the results of this year contest? Did Valentinna cheer you somehow?
Well, I wasn’t sad about the results. These kinds of shows are unpredictable. So, I know the results had nothing to do with my own vocal performance. I’m very confident in my ability to sing.
In which language do you prefer listening to music? Which’s your favourite winning song from Eurovision?
I like music in many languages. Sometimes you don’t have to understand the language to feel the music. As I said, music has to transport emotions. And, emotions has no language boundaries.
I think that was the case with Portugal this year. He was able to touch people’s emotions. That was also one of my favorite songs this year.
Do you have any plans about comeback to Eurovision?
Well, I would never say never. I think it would depend on the situation and if it’s right for me in that moment.
What is the best concert at which have you ever been?
That’s difficult to answer. Lionel Richie gave an awesome concert in Frankfurt a few years ago. I’m a very big Lionel Richie fan. So, maybe I would say this concert was one of the best.
Do you think that music can help people with their problems?
Of course! Music can be like medicine in certain situations. It can give people power to get through bad times. It can help you remember good situations when they are going through bad times. There are many ways music can help people with problems. Music can help you to just forget your problems and enjoy the moment.
What is your hobby, What do you do in your free time?
My favorite hobby is working out at the gym. I think it’s important to be fit. If you look good, you feel good. At least that’s how I see it. Other hobbies are just hanging out with friends doing normal things. Movies, going out to clubs and stuff like that. In winter I go skiing sometimes.
